I’m not sure you’ve heard the news, but I was awarded the Fulbright. I’m in shock and over the moon. I really wanted to thank you so much for all of the support that you gave to me in my application. From that first call when I discussed the project with you, I knew I’d met someone who was not only very good at their job, but shared an incredible engagement with literature and with people in general. It was the phone conversation that really started to solidify the project in my head, and made me feel like maybe I had a shot at getting this grant. I can’t tell you how much I’m looking forward to the next phase—actually executing his project, but first I really need to express my sincere gratitude for all you’ve done to make this possible. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!
Right from the start, Dr. Celesti Colds Fechter impressed me with her openness, warmth and faith in students. In the fall of 2010, I applied for the Fulbright Scholarship Program to Trinidad and Tobago and Jamaica and Dr. Colds Fechter wholeheartedly supported my journey through the rigorous application process, not once, but twice. While working with her, she taught me about efficiency and was passionate about my academic advancement in a manner that not only inspired confidence, but made me think of her as my number one source for support and active engagement. By working with Dr. Colds Fechter over the years, I have been exposed to wonderful resources and events to continue to guide me through my professional and continuing academic experience.
Because of her years of experience in teaching, coaching and advising, Dr. Celesti Colds Fechter knows how to support students. From her ability to expose students to Women Writers of the Diaspora series where she brings in some of the most extraordinary women writers of our time, to her guidance and passion for encouraging students to take advantage of opportunities like the Fulbright U.S. Student Program, her dedication confirms that she truly understands the needs and interests of students in higher education. Dr. Colds Fechter comes highly recommended from me for the simple fact that she coaches and cultivates students and prepares them for the real world. She is the change agent we NEED!

From the first time I met with Dr. Celesti Colds Fechter when I was an undergraduate, I knew she should be my mentor. In fact, I was so certain, I told her so! She has been a bright light in my life ever since. She had been invaluable and amazingly supportive of my pursuit of a career in Arts Therapy. With her encouragement, I’ve attended American Psychological Association (APA) conferences, become more confident in my writing ability, and I am now completing my goal of obtaining my Master’s Degree in Creative Arts Therapy (Art Therapy & Development) at Pratt Institute, right after receiving my B.S. in Psychology at The New School. Dr. Colds Fechter is a leader in her field, a role model to students, especially in education. She is inspiring and I hope to emulate her.

I just wanted to send a quick and somewhat belated thank you for your guidance. I’ve been accepted for the English Teaching Assistantship, and I’m so excited to take this first step in this new phase in my career, and your advice was a huge part in getting it started.
Upon returning to school, I was very excited and very nervous. When I met Dr. Colds Fechter, I felt at home. I knew that I had finally found a very special person who would help me undo some of my issues as an adult student returning to complete my college degree. She saw me through from beginning to end, and even introduced herself to my family at my graduation.
I would like to express my gratitude for the excellent workshop “You Got In ….Now What?” that you presented on February 26, 2014. While your workshop provided insights and information for students in general, I appreciate that you specifically addressed the challenges faced by first-generation students and students from underrepresented groups, who are often unaware of life-changing opportunities, grants, and fellowships that can enhance both their academic experience and their future career. This event was the first of its kind at The New School University, and, as a result of the great feedback we received from the participants, we are looking forward to having it as an ongoing event for New Student Orientations. Thank you for this professional, well organized event. Great job!

I realized the other day after calling that I never wrote to thank you for your support and guidance. The results are due any day now, but before they come out, I wanted to take a moment to express my gratitude for the time and consideration (especially at the end!) that you so generously gave. It really was a blessing (and my mom says “thank you” too!).
Celesti Colds Fechter has the rare gift of intelligence, compassion, and vision. She is a leader in every sense of the word. As one of her student advisees, Dr. Colds Fechter not only gave me invaluable advice, she also honed in on what I needed emotionally to move forward. With compassion and wisdom, she was the safe harbor I needed to gain access to my dreams. I am forever grateful for her vision, caring, unparalleled ability to bring clarity, and her inspiring me to aim higher.
